Museum Division

The collection of the Museum Division contains objects of art (paintings, graphic art, drawings, posters), documents (rare prints, manuscripts, election campaign leaflets etc.) and objects illustrating the history of Polish parliamentary system starting from the 15th century, and also a rich collection of photographs from the interwar and post war period.

History of the idea of the Museum of Polish Sejm

  • 11/25/1979 Resolution of the Presidium of the Sejm – conceptualization of the idea of the Museum of Polish Sejm
  • 1980 appointment of the Organizing Committee composed of historians, lawyers, and specialists in museology
  • 1981-1985 four sessions on the history of parliamentarism
  • 19/12/1984 Resolution of the Presidium of the – establishment of the “Museum of Polish Sejm” ancillary to the Head of the Chancellery of the Sejm
  • January 1985 the beginning of acquisition and preservation of museum objects intended for the future permanent museum exhibition
  • 1987-1988 designing and planning of the building (1713 sq. m usable area, 830 sq. m for the permanent exhibition)
  • 1989 decision of disposal of the building as the seat for Sejm Committees
  • 01/01/1991 liquidation of the Culture Development Fund, the inclusion of the budget of the instituttion to the budget of the Chancellery of the Sejm, the transformation of “Museum of Polish Sejm” into the Museum Division ancillary to the Sejm Library

Aims of the Museum Division

  • to accumulate source materials to the history of Polish parliamentarism
  • to conduct research works disseminating historical knowledge
  • to protect historical artifacts and make them available for visitors
  • to create the collection for the future permanent exhibitions
  • to design exhibitions commemorating historical anniversaries
  • to arrange of the space for temporary exhibitions

Total number of exhibitions (1986-2017)
